Great Books of the Western World[Team Nanban][TPB] PDF | 1994 | DESCRIPTION: There is no better way to own and appreciate the world's greatest written works. Great Books of the Western World is one of the most acclaimed publishing feats of our time. Authoritative, accurate, and complete, this collection represents the essential core of the Western literary canon, compiling 517 of the most significant achievements in literature, history, philosophy, and science into a color-coded set as handsome as it is affordable. From the ancient classics to the newest masterpieces of the 20th century, Great Books traces the ideas, stories, and discoveries that have shaped modern civilization. Volumes 1 and 2 of this collection is the Syntopicon, a unique two-volume guide (not sold separately) that enables you to investigate a particular idea and compare what different authors have to say about it. The Syntopicon comprises a new kind of reference work -- accomplishing for ideas what the dictionary accomplishes for words and the encyclopaedia accomplishes for facts. Also included is the Great Conversation, featuring fascinating background information, extensive timelines, photos, and quotes from the classic works and their authors. PLZ SEED AFTER DOWNLOADING... Great collection as far as it goes. Where is the Synopticon and all the others?
Terrific collection, terrible format. Don't you have them in something other than Word?
Thank you for your numerous contributions. Will the syntopicon be available at a later date?
i have uploaded all i have.!
sistromo -- apparently an uploader will upload what they have and not use a 'terrible' format just to yank downloaders chains ... so instead of whining and complaining about someone doing something you have not seen fit to do once on this tracker, convert the document into an 'acceptable' format (to you at least since i see no one else complaining) and then upload it so others may also share in your 'holier than thou' format ...
until that time however, say thank you and stfu
btw 594, thanks for sharing this and your many other fine offerings :)

I'm seeding, but it irritates the heck out of me that the Synopticon is missing from this collection.
If I can find the Synopticon online somewhere, I will create a new torrent of this collection which includes ALL the original contents.

This is *not* the "Great Books of the Western World" series...
This is merely an attempt at replicating the "Great Books of the Western World" series, using various alternative sources.
This torrent includes lots of outdated ebook formats (e.g. DOC, LIT) as well as lots of duplicate/alternate files without any explanation regarding their differences.
The whole point with the original "Great Books of the Western World" series was to get optimal editions/translations (drawing on the expertise of the series' editor) in an optimal and easy-to-read format.
I appreciate the effort, but this torrent collection does *not* fulfill the above nor is it a valid substitute for the original series...

I've managed to find the 1st edition of the Synopticon as well as the 2nd edition of the Gateway to the Great Books. It's better than nothing, but ideally I'd like at the very least to get hold of the 2nd edition of the "Synopticon" - if not all 60 volumes. The rest, i.e. the integral works forming the collection, could be supplemented using alternative sources like this torrent, though that would be a far messier experience than with the complete 60 volume original publication.
A quick status update, in case anyone's interested... I'm in the process of making my own custom edition, using this torrent and various other sources. So far, I've gathered together some "core" material (a custom-made master index, the Syntopicon, the Gateway publication, plus a couple of related books), and I'm about to start collecting the actual works included in the 1st and 2nd editions (i.e. from Homer in volume 3/4 and onwards).
If anyone has an urgent need for this core material, I could upload these files as a separate torrent. Otherwise, I'll wait until I gather together all the works included in both editions (might take a few months, or more) before I upload my own version (which I will try to keep in PDF format as much as possible).
